Before you delve into a whole new world of reinventing yourself and creating a new chapter in your life, I want you to identify your WHY.
Get you a pen and a journal and start writing down things. Never underestimate the importance of writing down your thoughts because you will always refer to them.
Ask yourself these 3 important questions, ‘why do I want to change my life?’. ‘What can I do to create this life I desire?’. ‘How can I sustain this new life I desire?’.
For someone like me, my why was breaking generational patterns and charting a new course for myself and my family. I was tired of the way things were going, and I knew someone had to do something.
After this exercise, the next thing to do is create a visual image or representation of what you want your new life to look like. You can create a vision board that you can physically refer to. Save it somewhere you can easily reach or see, so that you always have a daily reminder of what you want to achieve.
When you might have answered these questions and created your ideal life vision, here are 16 things or steps you need to take to desperately create that life you so desire.

16 TIPS ON HOW TO REINVENT YOUR LIFE
1. IDENTIFY WHAT’S HOLDING YOU BACK
For some people, it’s fear. For others, it’s their present circumstance or predicament. For another, it could be their environment be it people or surroundings, or even their past.
It is imperative to identify what may be restricting you from making the big move. Believe it or not, taking that bold step is a difficult feat.
I applaud your bravery if you are already on this path. Know that you are not alone, and it will only be a matter of time when you look back and smile because of how far you have come.
2. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND DON’T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT
The only person you can be honest with is yourself. You might withhold certain information from a therapist, doctor or coach, but deep down within you, only you know your truth.
Being honest with yourself also means being vulnerable with yourself. This step is to help you look deep within you, and sieve out those inherent trait that has been the key player in keeping you stuck. When you have done that, write them down.
The goal of this exercise is to identify and nip in the bud.

DON’T BLAME OTHERS FOR YOUR SET BACK BUT BE KIND TO YOURSELF
The first step to change is to identify and accept who is at fault. It’s almost second nature to humans to want to pass the blame to another person. You often hear things like…’I can’t do this because my spouse doesn’t like this’, or ‘I can’t achieve this because I have kids’. But the moment we make up our minds to BE, irrespective of the people around us or our beliefs, that’s where the real power is.
Truth is that people from our past or present may be the reason for our set back or predicament, we can’t deny this fact. But no one has the power to limit you unless you let them.
The power lies in our hands and it’s time to take that power back and become the main character in our own life.
HOW TO REINVENT YOURSELF FOR A BETTER LIFE
-
IDENTIFY YOUR LIMITATIONS AND TRIGGERS
Do a troubleshoot of your life. It can be painful going back to past hurt and relieving the moments, but what we are trying to achieve here is tracking the problem and finding a way to grow beyond and above it.
For example, for someone who was emotionally and verbally abused as a child, it can creep into adulthood in the form of low self-esteem and a skewed self-image. If you can identify the source, then you are well on your way to solving that problem.
Keep your eye on the goal when you do this so that you don’t dwell too much on your past.
-
NOW IT’S TIME TO LET GO OF YOUR PAST
You cannot change the past, but can only learn from it. What’s done it’s done, but it’s in our hands to create a better future. The past should only serve as stepping stone that has lead us to our present phase. Glean from all its experiences and let it serve as a tool to creating the future.
In this step, ask yourself these three questions;
‘What went well?’
‘What needs improvement?’
‘What needs to go?’
Do not forget to write this down!
-
CREATE A VISION AND PLAN OF WHAT YOU WANT YOUR LIFE TO BE LIKE
I talked about this in the beginning of this article, but in this step, its time to be detailed.
Break down each plan into steps and actions that needs to be taken to create this new life. Be very critical with what you are incorporating in this step. Check and recheck and make sure that whatever you write down are very important things that are going to eventually take you to your desired goal.
Quality over quantity should be the goal. Let all the plans and steps you intend to take add quality to your life. Sieve out all the others that will add little or no value to your life.
-
START WITH A MINDSET OVERHAUL
After creating your vision and plan, this can seem daunting and unachievable. Because of where you are coming from, it can seem like you are not qualified enough for the good life. But that thought is a lie.
Good things can happen to anyone and same as the bad things. What makes the difference is our thoughts and reactions.
When I started my own journey on reinventing myself, I always struggled with imposter syndrome. I felt like I was doing too much. But I kept going regardless, and surrounded myself with things that made my self-worth grow.
I’m here to tell you that you too can live beyond self-doubt.

Your daily habits are what will make up your goals. It is very pertinent to get rid of your previous bad habits and replace them with good ones.
While you are at this, I always encourage to be kind to yourself.
Rome was not built in a day. So have it in mind that to build good habits, you have to be patient with yourself and start afresh whenever you fail.
Giving up should never be an option but rather staying consistent should be the goal. Gradually what you dream of becoming will creep up on you while you are busy living your new reality.
9. CULTIVATE A GRATITUDE MINDSET
You can do this by seeing things differently from what others are seeing. I would recommend you Journal down your thoughts and outline your gratitude. This can be a game changer to how you feel and perceive your surroundings.

Things like petty gossips as simple as it may sound are time thieves. 5 mins here 20 minutes there and at the end of the week, you have found out that you spent over 3 hours of your time talking about meaningless things. 3 hours a week can be channeled into learning a course or skill to better your life.

Looking your best can be a game changer as this can help boast your mood and confidence.

BROADEN YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
When I started this journey of reinventing myself, I read books, and a whole lot of articles on topics that will help me on my new path. I also watched inspiring YouTube videos to draw strength from people who were once in a sorry state and have grown beyond that condition.

PURGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT
This can be a very harsh and drastic move to make. It can be setting boundaries, changing your circle, relocating to a better place, quitting your favourite television show, or staying away from unhealthy associations.
The only commodity you have is Time. If you continue to sell it to others without an exchange, you will become sick of life.
Some of the things I did when reinventing myself was; exiting toxic WhatsApp groups, breaking off toxic a friendship, having clear boundaries, unfollowing some people on social media.
Understand that one of the greatest pains in growth is loneliness.
For you to help others, you have to help yourself first. It is often in a place of solitude and incubation that a new self is born.
Anything that will make you do the things your old self does, or go back to the old you, it’s time to let them go!
It’s hard I know, but nothing good comes easy.
Your friends will see how changed and amazing your life is, and if they are truly your friend, they will understand that it’s for your best interest.
Your life will also be an inspiration to them.
-
ENJOY YOUR OWN COMPANY
One of the downsides of purging your environment is that you will be very lonely and for some people, this can be like a very bad thing because they are not used to being alone.
But if you look at the positive side of things, this should be the time to truly spend quality time with yourself and know who you truly are.
It should be the time of reflection, of refilling, a time of REST.
Yes! Spending time with yourself is a time to rest. Not just your body, but your thoughts and worries from the world.
I will recommend staying away from social media because this can pose as an intangible toxic environment.
Use this time to discover what makes you happy, what makes you feel alive and makes you tick.
-
BELEIVE YOU CAN DO IT
I will tell you from experience that the fear that will grip you at this point is REAL.
But always remind yourself of where you are coming from and all the things you have put in place to be where you are currently at.
If no one believe in you and what you want to achieve, please believe in yourself. It’s ok to take this steps afraid. It’s completely OK.
I encourage you to keep going regardless. Believe that you can do it. Every award-winning athlete started with walking and falling as a child.
Be kind to yourself and don’t beat your self up when you fail rather pick yourself up and keep moving no matter how slow.
-
REWARD YOURSELF
As an extension of spending time with yourself. This can be going on self-dates or going on solo travels if you have the financial capability. Just a quick advice, Rewarding your self should not be with things that take you away from your goals.
For example: eating junks, or spending endless hours in front of the TV. Anything that will take you far from your future self should not be seen as a reward.
Instead, find healthy habits and learn to love them.
On a final note, learn to honour yourself above anything else! Be kind to yourself!
